Our scholarships cover the basic costs of a high school education at a public school: books, transportation and lunch, which are not provided by the school system and make attendance prohibitively expensive for most village families. Scholarship recipients also receive money for new clothes and shoes each semester, so that they will not feel ashamed among their more fortunate classmates.  Approximate costs are:

  • school books & supplied: $250/year
  • bus pass (10 x $50/month): $500
  • lunch (200 x $2/day): $400
  • new clothes (2 outfits & 1 pair shoes/semester): $175
  • tutoring: $45/semester

These small amounts make a huge difference for each girl, her family, and ultimately the village as a whole, because of the enormous economic impact girls' high school education can have on an entire community.

Our board is entirely made up of volunteers, so the only other items in our annual budget are $150/month to pay our skilled local staff who provide psychosocial support for the girls and overall administration of the scholarships, and up to $700/year for printing, filing fees, mail, website and banking fees.  These administrative costs average about 7% of our annual budget, thanks primarily to our direct connection to the villagers and the hard work of local teachers, parents and other volunteers.  Learn more about our program design or donate now
